  • April 19, 2012:  India successfully tested Agni V, thereby joining the ICBM club comprising USA, Russia, China, France & U.K. India heralded a new era by testing its most ambitious nuclear missile – the over 5,000 km range Agni-V. India also opened the door to the super-exclusive ICBM (intercontinental ballistic missile) club that counts only the US, Russia, China, France and the UK as its members.
  • September 15, 2013:   The second test launch of Agni-V was successfully done on this day. It was launched from a mobile launcher.
  • January 31, 2015:   Third successful launch of Agni-V conducted successfully. India on this day successfully test-fired its indigenously developed, intercontinental surface-to-surface nuclear capable ballistic missile ‘Agni-5’, which has a strike range of over 5,000 km and can carry a nuclear warhead of over one tonne.
  • December 26, 2016:   India today successfully test-fired its home-grown long range intercontinental surface-to-surface nuclear capable ballistic missile Agni-5. 
Description
  • Agni-V is a solid fueled intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).
  • It will greatly expand India's reach to strike targets more than 5,500 km away.
  • It has been designed with the addition of a third composite stage to the two-stage Agni-III missile.
  • ‘Agni-5’ is the most advanced having new technologies incorporated with it in terms of navigation and guidance, warhead and engine. The missile can hit most northern parts of China and other parts of Asia, Europe and Africa.
  • Once this missile is inducted in Services, India will join the super exclusive club of countries with Inter-Continental Ballistic Missiles ICBMs alongside the US, Russia, China, France and the UK.
