His full name is James Charles Laker.
 
He is best known for "Laker's match" in 1956 at Old Trafford, when he took nineteen wickets in England's victory against Australia.
 
He played 46 Test matches between 1948 and 1959, taking 193 wickets with a bowling average of 21.24.
 
Born in Frizinghall, Bradford, Yorkshire, he was known as an elegant off-spin bowler.
 
He was the first individual to take all 10 wickets in a Test match innings, just for 53 in the Australians' second innings of the fourth Ashes Test at Old Trafford
on July 31, 1956.
 
Anil Kumble of India is the only other bowler in the world to take all 10 wickets in an innings.
 
Having already taken nine for 37 in the first innings, Laker's match bowling figures were nineteen for 90: no other bowler has taken more than seventeen wickets in a first-class match.
 
Laker's effort was part of a record-breaking performance during the 1956 Ashes series: Laker's 46 wickets established a record for a five-Test Ashes series which remains unbroken.
